A review: Sometimes a musician feels the need to step outside the box. Try something different. Explore other aspects of musicianship. To push themselves in a way that is not their normality. It’s something we all think about but rarely do. It’s a fear to become that vulnerable and reveal something completely different that people are not used to seeing or hearing. But it is something that is necessary to some musicians. They have all these emotions built up and they need to come out in some form or another. Dan Bobek is known for his band Raw Mojo and his post grunge-like solo work. However, his new album is a step in a different direction for him. His vulnerability is unleashed with his new album Vibrating on Hi.

With this new album, Dan has written songs that are not his norm. He steps outside of himself and opens up both musically and personally. With the help of a Kickstarter campaign, he hopes to take these songs to a new level of his musical career to share with the world.

In his own words, “I really want to do this right. I have spent far too long in this shell, too afraid to move beyond my fears. I am so proud of this album I have recorded and I’d love to see it packaged beautifully, to give people something to hold and talk about, and to get over my fears of traveling the world playing my music and making true connections with each and every one of you. Quality of and in life is very important. I spent the last week unable to walk without extreme pain due to a genetic problem with my joints. I honestly don’t know how many days I have left on this planet, none of us do, so it is high time to make this main bucket list goal I have into a reality.”

The album is packed with songs that come straight from his heart and he is working hard to be able to show this to the world. Personally, this album is one of his best and deserves to be heard by as many people as possible. With songs like the opening “Making Hay” to the subtle “To Be Alive”. “Glass Badass” has his classical stamp of the dark humor he has so masterfully accomplished. “Made to Shine” is exactly what Dan is made to do. He even throws in some 80′s like electro-pop with a song called “Stella D’oro” and pushes even further at the end of the album with an a capella song called “Thank You”.

Dan stretches his mind and opens up with every song on this album. A true musician is one who can create without boundaries. Dan Bobek does just that with this album. He has transformed himself and opened up like never before and has unintentionally put him on a completely different level of musicianship. His songwriting is greatly displayed as his soul comes gushing out for the world to see. You would be doing yourself a great dishonor by not listening to this album with an open mind.
